Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool

Crystal Palace’s search for 2016 league win went on as Benteke’s stoppage time penalty gave Liverpool the three points. Adebayor’s header hit the crossbar and Cabaye saw his shot hit the side netting in an uninspiring first 45 minutes. Palace however, did open the scoring three minutes into the second half, Ledley firing low into the net after Liverpool were unable to clear the ball after a corner.

Milner then saw red for his second booking after fouling Zaha. Palace looked set for their first win of the year before McCarthy cleared the ball straight to Firmino, who took the opportunity and equalised. Moreno hit the post from long range before Eagles fans’ hearts were broken when Delaney brought down Benteke, who scored the resulting spot-kick.

The Eagles last won a league on December 19th and are now on a run of 12 league games without a win. As for Liverpool, they now climb to seventh place and are only five points off a European place.

West Brom 1-0 Manchester United

Salomon Rondon scored the only goal of the game as West Brom beat Manchester United in a lacklustre encounter. Juan Mata received two yellow cards within three minutes and United played just over an hour of the game with ten men. Chances were rare for both clubs in the first half, however half way through the second half, Rondon expertly controlled Pocognoli’s cross before striking low in to the corner.

United were unable to mount a comeback and Pulis’s side recorded their first home league win over United since 1984. The result means United were unable to overtake West Ham, as the Red Devils sit in sixth place, two points off a European spot. West Brom rose to 11th and are now on a run of four league games without a loss.
