Top10.com shows red card to confusing Premier League deals

LONDON, U.K., Aug. 19 /PRFire/ — Almost nine out of ten of football fans are confused by broadband and football bundles, a Top10.com survey shows.

Of 256 respondents to an online survey conducted on Top10.com’s site, 89 per cent admitted that they are baffled by broadband and football TV bundles.

The findings come as the non-HD versions of Sky Sports 1 and 2 last month became available as part of bundled BT broadband deals for the first time, offering live Premier League games from £6.99 per month.

Virgin Media has also recently secured the rights to include Sky Sports 1 & 2 as HD and non-HD options with its broadband TV deals. Prior to the opening up of the market, the only way to bundle live Premier League football with broadband and other services was to sign up with Sky.

Customers are perplexed in part by the sheer range of deal combinations on offer. Also causing confusion is that live games are screened across Sky Sports 1,2,3 and 4, while others are only available on rival sports broadcaster ESPN.

The result of this is that it’s now harder to compare prices and be sure of seeing the games you’re most interested in when you choose a broadband and football TV bundle.

To help fans make sense of the raft of options, Top10.com has compiled an exhaustive guide (http://top10.com/broadband/compare/broadband_and_football_tv_deals/) to packages that combine Premier League football with other services.

The page includes comprehensive lists of which fixtures are screening on which channels, as well as easy to use comparison tables and simple explanations of services.

Alex Buttle, Marketing Director at Top10.com, said: “Our guide includes all the information consumers will need in one place, including easy-to-follow package explanations, cost breakdowns and fixture lists to simplify what can otherwise be more arduous than the most exacting pre-season training camp.”

“Last season’s battle for the Premier League title was the closest for years and with this year’s likely to be just as nail-biting, we like to think we’re helping fans ensure they don’t miss a moment.”

Gnash of the Titans

Forget Chelsea vs United on the pitch – a game which both teams seemed happy to draw until a dodgy set-piece – there were far more entertaining matters taking place off the pitch.

Just what is this guy playing at?!

Black Cats had Tigers by the tail

The return of Adam Pearson as chairman at Hull City sparked some head-scratching news this week, as the cash-strapped Tigers were outed big time for their shoddy business sense.

Pearson announced his surprise that the club earned just £2.8m from the summer sale of star defender Michael Turner, who was valued at over £10m at the time. Sunderland paid £4m for the centre-half, with his previous clubs Brentford and Charlton receiving a share of £1.2m in sell-on payments.

Turner has been in excellent form for the Black Cats this season, whilst Hull have severely missed his presence, leading to bemusement at how such a player could leave for a paltry fee. It can be said that the player wanted to leave, yet Sunderland aren’t renowned for being particularly frugal; it’s not just Pearson who finds it bizarre that Hull couldn’t extract more money for their prized asset.

Has Phil Brown parted company with Hull City?

Rumours are spreading across the net that Hull have ditched manager Phil Brown.

Sky Sports’ roaming reporter Andy Burton broke the news on his Twitter page earlier this afternoon, with the tweet:

“Think Phil Brown has left Hull. To be confirmed though…”

Now the Daily Mail are onto it, as betting sites suspend their manager markets in fear of fans cashing in on Mr. Fake Bake’s potential demise…
