International break = Snoozefest… except Argentina

Been a bit quiet on here last week. Apologies for that, but what do you expect? The international break is an absolute sleeping pill. The only matches were bothering about were in Russia, Denmark and Argentina.

The latter managed a 93rd-minute winner against Peru at the weekend to keep their World Cup dreams alive – Martin Palermo rising like a phoenix from the flames to reignite an international career left on pause for a decade. He is the 77th player that Diego Maradona has used in World Cup Qualifying – simply astonishing. What the hell were the Argie FA thinking of? It’s akin to putting Gazza in charge of England.

A highly conceivable defeat in Uruguay on Wednesday night, in tandem with an Ecuadorean win at already-qualified Chile, would leave Argentina out of next year’s World Cup. 11pm on Wednesday – it promises to be a cracker.
